Privacy Policy

Last updated 19 September 2026. This page explains what Mantis Eco Adventures collects when you use this website, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. If anything here is unclear, email info@mantisecoadventures.co.za and we will answer in plain words.

What we collect, and why

When you download the free travel planner

Your first name, surname (optional) and email address. We use them to send you the planner and a welcome email. Below the form is a separate, unticked box for our newsletter. You only get the newsletter if you tick it, and every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link.

When you leave a comment or ask Johan a question

Your name, your email address, what you wrote, and the date. WordPress, the software this site runs on, also records the IP address and browser type the comment came from, which helps catch spam.

Your name and comment are shown publicly once Johan approves them. Your email address is never shown. We use it to tell you when your comment goes live and when Johan replies to you.

Under the comment form there is a separate box that says “Send me the Mantis newsletter”. It is unticked. We only add you to the newsletter if you tick it yourself, and we keep a record of the date you ticked it and the wording you saw.

When you book a call

The free call is booked through Calendly, a separate scheduling service. What you enter there is handled under Calendly’s own privacy policy.

When you browse the site

We use Google Analytics to see which pages are read and how people find them, and our own reading tracker to see which sections of an article are read. These use cookies and record things like pages visited, time on page and roughly which country a visit came from. They do not tell us who you are.

What we never do

We do not sell or rent your details to anyone. We do not pass your email address to lodges, rental companies or tour operators. If you choose to have your trip booked, we share with the booking agency only what it needs to make those bookings.

Where your details are kept

On this website’s own server, with our hosting provider. Emails from us are sent from info@mantisecoadventures.co.za.

How long we keep them

Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe. Comments stay on the article they were posted on until you ask us to remove them. If you unsubscribe, we keep a note of your address only so that we never email you again by mistake.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop emailing you. Email info@mantisecoadventures.co.za and we will deal with it within 30 days. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom these rights come from the GDPR, and in South Africa from the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Changes to this page

If we change how we use your details, we will update this page and the date at the top.
